Asakusa ‘Sanja Matsuri’ Tokyo festival reaches climax
An annual festival at a shrine in Tokyo’s Asakusa district has reached its climax with the procession of 3 large portable shrines.
The centuries-old “Sanja Matsuri” of Asakusa Shrine signals the arrival of summer. Sunday is the last day of the 3-day event.
Men and women wearing “happi” coats and headbands walked through the shrine compound bearing the 3 shrines on their shoulders early in the morning.
